NBA Star Victor Wembanyama Exits Game With Concussion After Fall

The San Antonio Spurs are ensuring their star player’s safety before he returns to the court.

Victor Wembanyama had to leave the game and is being evaluated for a concussion after a hard fall during Game 2 of the NBA playoffs against the Portland Trail Blazers on April 21st in San Antonio, Texas.

Following the game, Spurs coach Mitch Johnson told NBC News that the player suffered a concussion and is now following the league’s concussion protocol. The team will be taking all necessary steps to ensure his recovery.

During the second quarter, the 7-foot-4 Wembanyama fell after being fouled by Jrue Holiday of the Trail Blazers. He couldn’t protect himself and landed face-first, hitting his jaw on the court. About thirty seconds later, he sat up, and a timeout was called.

The 22-year-old player was able to get to his feet, though he seemed unsteady at first. After briefly going to the tunnel to be checked by medical staff, it was determined he wouldn’t return to the game due to league health and safety regulations.

Okay, so everyone’s wondering about Wembanyama’s status for Game Three on April 24th, and understandably so! Right now, we’re still waiting to see if he’ll be cleared to play. The NBA has a really strict concussion protocol, and rightly so – player safety is key. Basically, anyone who’s potentially had a concussion needs at least 48 hours of rest and has to meet a bunch of other requirements before they can get back on the court. We’re all hoping he feels better soon, but the league will make the final call based on his health.

As a long-time supporter, I heard Johnson say it best: we simply have to stick to the established procedure, just like everyone else. It’s about following the rules and then making plans based on what’s allowed. It’s reassuring to know we’re being consistent and predictable.

The Spurs barely lost Game 2, making the series with Portland 1-1. Wembanyama’s teammates said they’ll definitely miss his contributions as they continue competing in the Western Conference playoffs.

Spurs guard Devin Vassell emphasized the team needs to rise to the challenge following Victor Wembanyama’s injury. “We know what Vic brings to the table,” Vassell said, according to NBC News, adding that the team has already played games without him this season. He stressed the importance of everyone stepping up to fill the void, and not letting Wembanyama’s absence be a setback. While fans await updates on Wembanyama’s concussion, here’s a look back at health issues faced by other celebrities.

“It’s been a really tough time,” Devine shared on the In Depth With Graham Bensinger podcast in 2025. “I’ve been experiencing spasms all over my body, and doctors told me recently – within the last year – that my condition was life-threatening.”

He explained that his pain is intermittent, saying, “My body has a few quirks and isn’t quite perfect.”

He described a lingering tingling sensation in his knees and toes during a March 2025 episode of his podcast, Trading Secrets. He explained that just a few weeks prior, he was able to squat 295 pounds, but now he can’t even do a basic squat or stand on one leg without falling. He compared the feeling to having had a stroke.

But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

After noticing she looked “puffier” and receiving critical comments online, doctors began commenting on her interviews, suggesting she might have Cushing syndrome, a condition potentially caused by high cortisol levels or steroid injections. This prompted Amy to realize she had been receiving steroid injections after a breast reduction and C-section. She wouldn’t have known about the condition without the online scrutiny. Amy recently shared that she’s relieved to learn her type of Cushing syndrome will resolve on its own and that she is healthy, calling it the best news she could have received.

In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. She suddenly began having stroke-like symptoms, initially unable to respond when Justin asked if she was okay. She then realized she couldn’t speak and the right side of her face started to droop.

Although the symptoms eventually passed, Hailey went to the hospital where tests revealed she’d had a small blood clot in her brain, which doctors identified as a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack).

Further testing at UCLA discovered Hailey had a hole in her heart called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). Doctors determined the blood clot had traveled to her heart, passed through the hole, and reached her brain, causing the TIA.

Hailey has since undergone a successful procedure to close the PFO and is now doing well.

The same year Hailey faced a health issue, Justin also went through a difficult time. In June 2022, he revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a condition that caused temporary paralysis on one side of his face. This forced him to cancel the rest of his Justice World Tour.

In a video posted to Instagram, Justin explained that the virus affected the nerves in his ear and face, causing paralysis. He showed fans how it impacted his ability to blink, smile, and even move his nostril on one side. He also shared that it had become increasingly difficult for him to eat.

Fortunately, the paralysis eventually went away. Hailey shared on Good Morning America that Justin was recovering well and feeling much better, adding that they were grateful he was going to be okay after what she described as a scary and unexpected situation.

Initially, a doctor gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but his sister, Deidra Dixon, was worried and took him to the hospital. There, doctors discovered he had a brain bleed that led to a stroke.

A hospital scan revealed she had suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage – a life-threatening stroke caused by a ruptured aneurysm. She immediately underwent surgery to repair it, but the pain was excruciating. During her recovery, she experienced aphasia, leaving her unable to speak clearly.

Though she left the hospital after a month, a 2013 scan showed the aneurysm had grown and required a second surgery. This procedure was unsuccessful, leading to a massive bleed and a dire prognosis. Doctors had to perform a more invasive surgery, accessing her brain directly through her skull.

Fortunately, Emilia Clarke is now fully recovered and says she is “at a hundred per cent.”
