PQube and Dragonis Games have announced that Necrophosis: Full Consciousness will release on May 28th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (via Steam). A physical copy for PlayStation 5 will include the game The Shore as a bonus.
Unlike most horror games where you’re equipped to fight back, Necrophosis doesn’t give you any weapons, according to Dragonis Games founder Ares Dragonis. This was a deliberate choice. The game isn’t focused on combat or survival, but rather on confronting incomprehensible beings and discovering unbelievably strange worlds.
Here is an overview of the game, via PQube:
Dragonis Games, the creators of The Shore, are now developing Necrophosis. This new game blends Lovecraftian horror with the unsettling and dreamlike art style of Zdzisław Beksiński, promising a much more intense and intricate world.
A core idea behind Necrophosis, the horror game from Dragonis Games founder Ares Dragonis, is its unique lack of weapons – a feature rarely seen in the genre. The game’s striking visual style is deeply inspired by the surreal and haunting paintings of Zdzislaw Beksinski, an artist Ares has admired for years. Beksinski’s work, known for its unsettling beauty and depiction of decay in dreamlike environments, defines the look and feel of Necrophosis: Full Consciousness. This ambitious project, three years in the making and featuring over 400 handmade elements, represents Dragonis Games’ largest undertaking to date.
In Necrophosis, you play as a Consciousness, a spirit stuck inside a crumbling body, wandering a world overtaken by endless decay. As you explore disturbing environments filled with Lovecraftian horror, each puzzle and challenge draws you further into a grim and unsettling story.
The “Subconsciousness” downloadable content expands on the game’s experience, letting players explore as a disembodied mind. You’ll navigate strange and abandoned places, and solve puzzles accompanied by beautiful, spoken narration. This content reveals secrets that were inaccessible in the main game.
Players venture through crumbling locations, collecting bits of poetry that reveal the story of the world and solving puzzles that become increasingly disturbing. The game builds suspense through its atmosphere and surroundings, rather than jump scares or direct threats.
The console versions of Necrophosis: Full Consciousness for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series include both the original Necrophosis game and the “Subconsciousness” downloadable content, offering the complete Necrophosis experience.
