NES Game Getting New Release This Week After Over 35 Years Later

A classic game originally released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) over 35 years ago is now coming to modern consoles. Back in the NES era, many games were only available in Japan and never made it to other parts of the world. Though this is less common now, there are still lots of NES games that fans haven’t had a chance to play. Fortunately, one of these hidden gems is getting a broader release this week.

Get ready! Ishin no Arashi is launching tomorrow, April 16th, thanks to Hamster Corporation. As the newest game in Hamster’s “Console Archives” series, it’s coming to both PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. Not only will you be able to play on these new systems, but the game will also feature improvements like customizable controls and save states.

You might not have heard of Ishin no Arashi, and that’s okay! This strategy game first came out on computers in 1988, and then was adapted for the NES in 1990. While it was also released on PlayStation and Sega Saturn, the NES version is the one most people remember. And that’s the version Hamster is bringing to a new audience with this release.

This historical game puts you in the shoes of a passionate patriot during Japan’s Bakumatsu period. Instead of just fighting, you’ll convince powerful lords and figures to join your cause and help build a new future for the nation. It’s a game about winning arguments and surviving the turbulent end of the shogunate – where your ideas are your greatest weapon!

PC players might be interested to know that Ishin: Letters of Promise is already available on Steam. Koei Tecmo originally released it for PC back in 2017. While console gamers had to wait almost ten years, a version for consoles is finally coming out very soon.
