Netflix is continuing to invest in science fiction programming. Their latest project is a new series called The Future is Ours, based on the dystopian novel The World Jones Made by Philip K. Dick. The series is a collaboration between Dick’s estate, Electric Shepherd Productions, and K&S Films, the company behind the popular Netflix series The Eternaut. Notably, this will be the first time one of Philip K. Dick’s stories has been adapted into a Spanish-language TV show.
The upcoming series, The Future is Ours, will consist of eight episodes. Set in South America in 2047, the show takes place after an environmental disaster has led to the formation of FedSur – a group of South American nations using strict methods to safeguard the environment and control social issues. The story centers on Hugo Crussí, a police officer who discovers Jonás Flores, a young preacher with the ability to predict the future, who quickly gains a following as a spiritual leader. Crussí later joins the resistance and becomes a target himself.
Francisco Ramos, Netflix’s VP of Content for Latin America, released a statement confirming that adaptations of Philip K. Dick’s work are being handled carefully and are relevant to today’s social and political climate.
We deeply admire the work of Philip K. Dick and see his themes as incredibly relevant today. Adapting his stories is a huge undertaking, but we’re excited to create a narrative that portrays Latin America as a strong force for change. This will be a groundbreaking, high-quality production—the most ambitious of its kind in Latin America—proving that stories like these can be told from our region, in Spanish, and to the highest standards.

Mateo Gil will lead the creative direction of the show, and Vincente Amorim, Daniel Rezende, and Jesús Braceras will each direct episodes. This team has previously worked on popular Spanish-language series for Netflix, such as Eternaut, One Hundred Years of Solitude, Pedro Páramo, and Senna. The series will feature a talented cast of Spanish-language actors, including Emiliano Zurita, Delfina Chaves, Enzo Vogrincic, Marleyda Soto, and Marco Antonio Caponi.
Isa Dick Hackett, daughter of the original author, praised the Netflix series, stating that Mateo’s adaptation is both creative and daring while staying true to the spirit of the book. She’s always felt that the vibrant culture and skilled artists of Latin America would be a perfect backdrop for a project of this scale, and she was impressed by the dedication of everyone involved.
