*Warning: Spoilers ahead for Something Very Bad is Going to Happen episode 4.*
With the release of Netflix’s new horror show, Something Very Bad is Going to Happen, viewers got a surprise when a familiar face popped up in the middle of the season.
Fans were surprised to see Victoria Pedretti, known for her roles in horror, appear in the show. She plays Alexandra, the mother of Rachel Harkin (played by Camila Morrone), in an episode that delves into a frightening part of Rachel’s past. The show is executive produced by the creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers.
I was really impressed with Pedretti’s performance – she played Rachel’s dad alongside Logan Miller, and honestly, she handled some of the scariest moments in the whole show. It was intense to watch!
In a recent interview with TopMob, the show’s creator, Haley Z Boston, shared her admiration for the actress, saying many horror fans feel the same way.
She’s incredibly talented, especially in this genre. She’s masterful at portraying fear and bringing inner feelings to life through her performance. I was thrilled she took on the role, and she truly made the character something special.
Pedretti’s performance was so strong it actually altered the episode’s original plan. As Boston explained, deviating from the main plot requires a truly captivating character and storyline to keep viewers engaged.
Victoria and Logan delivered such strong performances that we were able to reshape the episode around their story. Originally, the script called for cutting back to Rachel, but their performances were so compelling that we decided to dedicate about 15 minutes to focusing solely on them.
Kate Siegel is famous for her work in popular horror and thriller series like Mike Flanagan’s The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor, and the psychological thriller You.
Boston also mentioned that listeners may have already heard Pedretti’s voice earlier in the season – she narrates the podcast in the first episode. And that’s just one of the hidden details fans should keep an eye out for.

Beyond including nods to Stranger Things, the creator also highlighted that the house number, 11376, is a reference to the release date of the film Carrie.
Near the end of the pilot episode, Rachel wears a shirt featuring the Timberline Lodge, the Oregon location where parts of ‘The Shining’ were filmed. It’s enjoyable to include those kinds of details while preparing the show, and people started asking about things like the house number. It felt natural to pay tribute to the films and places that inspired me and my creative process.
