While Marvel Comics’ iconic teams are adding new heroes, they sometimes still feel incomplete because important characters are missing.
Tim Seely’s Inglorious X-Force comic ran into the same problem as many Marvel titles: being unable to use popular mutant characters. In an interview with AIPT Comics, Seely explained that Multiple Man and Bishop were specifically removed from the team roster due to these restrictions.
The story delves deeper into the connections between each character. The creative team, along with the X-Editors, spent a lot of time discussing the lineup. Initially, the focus was on Cable, Ms. Marvel, and Boom-Boom, as those characters were central to the original idea. They then expanded the team to include members from different periods of the comic’s history, adding Domino and Archangel. Akihiro (Silver Samurai) was suggested by Mark Basso, and while the author was hesitant at first, conversations with comic book peers like Jordan Blum, Ben Percy, and Steve Orlando convinced them of his potential.
I’m really enjoying how Gerry Duggan is using the vast history of the X-Men in Inglorious X-Force. While it seems like Warren Worthington III, aka Archangel, is going to be the main focus of the next story arc, it got me thinking about what could have been. The solicitations for issues #4 and #5 definitely point to some big revelations about him, and it sounds like his story is just getting started. It’s exciting to see where this goes, but I can’t help but wonder how different things might be if Bishop or Multiple Man had joined the team instead. Still, I’m completely hooked on what’s happening with Archangel right now!
Bishop Will Return To The X-Men Soon Enough
Although Bishop won’t be part of the Inglorious X-Force team, he’ll still appear in some recent X-Men comic books. These comics will bridge the gap between Season 1 and Season 2 of X-Men ’97 before the animated series returns on Disney+. According to Marvel Comics, the comics will directly follow the events of Season 1, setting up the storylines and introducing new characters and teams for Season 2.
You can now find Seely’s Inglorious X-Force comic book at most comic retailers. Issue #4 comes out on April 15th.
