This February, Netflix subscribers are keeping an eye on both new shows and titles that are leaving the service. While the streaming platform has added popular movies and series like How to Train Your Dragon and Search Party, it’s also announced that some content will soon be removed. After two years on Netflix and gaining popularity, all three seasons of the HBO Max drama, a gritty crime series centered around martial arts, are set to disappear from the platform.
Okay, fellow movie and TV lovers, heads up! There’s only a week left to catch Warrior on Netflix. It’s a really fantastic show – based on an idea by Bruce Lee himself, and his daughter, Shannon Lee, was heavily involved as a producer. It ran for three seasons, a total of 30 episodes, originally on Cinemax and HBO Max from 2019 to 2023. It’s set in San Francisco during the brutal Tong Wars of the late 1870s, and follows Ah Sahm, an incredible martial artist who comes to America and ends up getting involved with a powerful crime family while battling other gangs in Chinatown. It just landed on Netflix in February 2024, but sadly, it’s leaving the platform on February 16th, so make sure you check it out before it’s gone!
Bruce Lee’s Warrior Is a Top-Tier Historical Crime Drama That Shouldn’t Have Been Cancelled
If you’re looking for a consistently excellent show, add Warrior to your watchlist before it leaves Netflix. The series quickly pulls you into the dangerous and realistic world of 1880s San Francisco’s Chinatown, with incredible costumes and sets. It features some of the best fight choreography on television, combined with intense drama that many have compared to shows like Deadwood or Game of Thrones. Warrior is easy to get invested in because, despite all the action, it focuses on complex characters with shades of gray, and explores themes of survival, power, and what’s right and wrong, all set against a backdrop of gang violence, racism, and political corruption.
The cancellation of Warrior is especially surprising because the show consistently improved with each season. It started with a 79% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and ultimately achieved perfect 100% scores in its second and third seasons. Viewers also rated it higher over time, increasing its Popcornmeter score by a point each season after an initial 95%. However, these positive results weren’t enough to save it, given the changes happening after the 2022 merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery. Corporate restructuring, budget cuts, and new priorities led to many shows being canceled, and despite its quality, Warrior was one of them – a disappointing outcome for a series that could have continued for many more seasons.
Where to Stream Warrior After It Leaves Netflix?
Don’t worry if you can’t watch all of Warrior on Netflix before it’s removed! All three seasons are also streaming on HBO Max. Since Warrior is an HBO Max original, it’s likely to stay there for a while, though streaming services sometimes remove shows. You can also rent or buy the series online if you prefer.
