One of Titus Welliver‘s underseen roles will soon be getting a bigger spotlight on Netflix.
Lance Reddick is probably most famous for playing Harry Bosch in the popular Prime Video series, which now also includes the show Ballard. However, he’s quietly created a really strong career on television. He’s remembered for roles like Silas Adams in the highly praised HBO drama Deadwood, as well as appearances in beloved shows such as Lost and Sons of Anarchy.
Fans of science fiction will soon have more to watch on Netflix! All five seasons of the post-apocalyptic series The Last Ship, totaling 56 episodes, will be added to the streaming service on June 22nd. According to What’s on Netflix, this marks the first time the show has been available on the platform.
Netflix recently added The Last Ship as part of a deal with Warner Bros. Television, the studio that made the show. This is similar to how Netflix has also started streaming other Warner Bros. shows like the comedy Search Party (originally on TBS) and the police drama The Closer (originally on TNT).
The Last Ship is an original series that aired on TNT from 2014 to 2018. Inspired by William Brinkley’s novel of the same name, the show follows the crew of a U.S. Navy destroyer after a global pandemic kills most of the world’s population. They must find a cure and navigate a dangerous new world, hoping to save humanity.
Eric Dane, who recently passed away, stars as Tom Chandler, the former captain of the USS Nathan James. The show also includes a large cast with Rhona Mitra, Adam Baldwin, Charles Parnell, Travis Van Winkle, Marissa Neitling, Christina Elmore, Jocko Sims, John Pyper-Ferguson, Bridget Regan, Bren Foster, Fay Masterson, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Hiroyuki Sanada, who would later become known for his role in Shōgun.
James Welliver portrayed the character Thorwald for the first two seasons of the show, developed by Hank Steinberg and with Michael Bay as an executive producer. Thorwald was a former detective who became a leader of the resistance, and he appeared in the last two episodes of the first season and the beginning of the second.
Welliver has a great scene with Alfre Woodard, who also appeared in The Last Ship. The show was generally liked while it aired, especially its second season, and it might gain new viewers now that it’s on Netflix. Plus, you’ll be able to see Welliver in other projects soon. He’s in the upcoming gang drama The Westies, releasing in July, and he’ll reprise his role as Harry Bosch in Ballard.
