Although a continuation of Schitt’s Creek isn’t planned, fans can now enjoy a new comedy series on Netflix starring one of the show’s beloved actors. Schitt’s Creek originally aired for six seasons (from 2015 to 2020) and grew from a small Canadian comedy into a widely-loved, critically-acclaimed TV classic. Now, six years later, that same actor is bringing more laughs with an eight-episode Netflix series full of chaotic family humor.
Most people recognize Dan Levy as David Rose from the hit show Schitt’s Creek, but he’s now starring in a new Netflix series called Big Mistakes. The show, created with Rachel Sennott, launched on April 9th and all eight episodes are available to stream now. It’s a funny crime thriller about two clumsy siblings, played by Levy and Taylor Ortega, who get caught up in the world of organized crime after a failed attempt to steal something for their grandmother.
Big Mistakes Is a Perfect Schitt’s Creek Follow-up for Dan Levy
I have to say, Schitt’s Creek set the bar incredibly high, but I’m already hooked on Big Mistakes! It’s quickly becoming one of those shows you just have to binge-watch. It reminds me a lot of Schitt’s Creek – especially the way the siblings playfully fight but always have each other’s backs, and the family’s definitely… complicated. But honestly, it’s a total change of pace! Where Schitt’s Creek was warm and comforting, this is wild, fast-moving, and seriously funny, but in a much darker way. It’s a crime thriller with real consequences, and it really dives into how trauma can affect families for generations. It’s a bit unhinged, but in the best possible way.
It’s too soon to tell if Big Mistakes will be a hit. It hasn’t climbed the Netflix charts yet, and there aren’t any critic or audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes. Initial reviews are mixed: Variety called it a “wild ride” but noted the complicated plot gets in the way of what could be really funny moments. The show seems to be still finding its footing, but it has the potential to become a beloved cult classic. Plus, with only eight short (around 30 minutes each) episodes in the first season, it’s easy to watch all at once.
Will There Be a Big Mistakes Season 2?
It’s still unclear whether the show will be back for another season. Netflix hasn’t made a decision yet, and that will likely depend on how many people watched and what critics thought. So, fans will probably have to wait a while before finding out what happens next. That said, the way Season 1 ended definitely hinted at the possibility of a second season.
