I absolutely love crime limited series – they’re incredibly popular right now! And Harlan Coben is the perfect author to collaborate with on these types of shows.
Netflix and author Harlan Coben are teaming up again for a new limited series. According to Tudum, they’ll be adapting Coben’s 2007 novel, The Woods, into an eight-episode show. Tom Bateman, known for his role in Based on a True Story, will play the main character.
The Woods Is Already in Production
I’m so excited about this new series! Knowing how well Netflix and Harlan Coben did with shows like Fool Me Once and Run Away, I have high hopes. They’ve got a deal to make a lot more adaptations, both here and abroad, which is fantastic. And the best part? They’re already filming it right now in Manchester and around the beautiful North West of England!
Daniel Brocklehurst, a frequent collaborator with Harlan Coben, wrote the series. He’s previously adapted several of Coben’s works for the screen, including Run Away, Lazarus, Fool Me Once, Safe, The Stranger, and Stay Close. Coben himself created the series and is an executive producer through his production company, Final Twist Productions.
The main cast features Tom Bateman (known for The Love Hypothesis and Hedda) as Paul ‘Cope’ Copeland, alongside Michelle Keegan (Fool Me Once, Brassic) as Lucy Silverfield, and Mandeep Dhillon (MobLand, After Life) as Loren Muse.
I was checking out the cast list for The Woods, and wow, it’s packed with familiar faces! You’ve got Pearce Quigley, who I remember from Small Prophets and The Gentlemen, and Rade Sherbedgia, a great character actor I’ve seen in Slow Horses and even Downton Abbey. Plus, James Buckley from The Inbetweeners is in it, which is always fun. Shannon Watson, Pamela Nomvete (loved her in Andor!), Kerry Howard, Roger Barclay (also in Andor!), Simon Lowe, Dean Fagan, Tom Allen (that guy’s hilarious!), Tracy-Ann Oberman, Charlotte Beaumont, and Christopher Harper round out a seriously impressive ensemble. It’s cool to see so many talented people all in one movie.
Netflix isn’t the first to bring The Woods to the screen; Poland adapted the novel back in 2020. This is just one of several international versions, including the Spanish limited series The Innocent (El Inocente).
