Netflix reveals Kpop Demon Hunters breaks another record for streamer – and which TV show led the way for their engagement

Since its debut on Netflix last June, K-Pop Demon Hunters has quickly become a major cultural hit, and now Netflix has announced the show has broken another record.

Netflix’s latest report on viewing habits reveals the film was streamed an incredible 482 million times from July to December. This makes it the most-watched title ever in a six-month period on the platform.

To put things in perspective, another one of the streamer’s big original movies, Happy Gilmore 2, only reached 135 million views, even though it had the biggest opening weekend of any Netflix film in the US. This really highlights how incredibly popular the fantasy film has been, and its reach is even clearer when you consider that the K-Pop Demon Hunters lyric videos gained an additional 32 million views.

Okay, so everyone’s buzzing about a sequel to that fantastic film – the one with the K-pop girl group who also happen to be seriously skilled demon hunters. Unfortunately, it looks like we’re in for a bit of a wait – 2029, to be exact. But honestly, given how good the first one was, I have no doubt this next installment will be huge when it finally gets here.

The film has become incredibly popular with audiences and critics alike. It’s already won Best Animated Feature at the Critics Choice and Golden Globe Awards, making it the frontrunner to win the same award at the Academy Awards in March.

Netflix’s report highlighted Wednesday as its most popular TV series in the second half of 2025. The second season of the Tim Burton-directed Addams Family spin-off garnered 124 million views after being released in two parts during August and September.

Even though it was released late in the year, the latest season of Stranger Things was a huge hit, landing in second place with 94 million views – just ahead of the crime drama Untamed, which had 93 million. Other popular shows in the top 10 included the third season of Squid Game (79 million views) and Monster: The Ed Gein Story (56 million), alongside previous seasons of Stranger Things and Wednesday.

Besides K-Pop Demon Hunters and Happy Gilmore 2, the most-watched films included Frankenstein with 98 million viewers, My Oxford Year with 86 million, and The Old Guard 2 with 82 million. The Thursday Murder Club also made the top 10, reaching 69 million viewers.

It’s surprising that Rian Johnson’s latest Knives Out movie, Wake Up Dead Man, didn’t make the top 10. However, it was released in December, giving it much less time to gain views compared to the other films on the list.
