The published script for the movie Superman has revealed details about a scene that was cut from the final film. This deleted scene involved Superman’s dog, Krypto, and a group of yetis. It explains the origin of some earlier promotional images and merchandise that showed white, furry creatures.
Superman script reveals Krypto’s dark deleted scene
The recently published script for Superman shows a scene with Krypto the Superdog was filmed but didn’t make it into the final movie. This deleted scene sheds light on why early promotional images and products featured details about the Fortress of Solitude that weren’t in the finished film.
An early draft of the movie began with a scene at the Fortress of Solitude featuring Krypto the Superdog and some yetis. The scene showed Krypto guiding Superman through the area after defeating the creatures, which led Superman to ask him to stop. Although this scene was both written and filmed, it didn’t make it into the final version of the movie.
Okay, so picture this: Krypto, Superman’s dog, is practically dragging Superman through this absolutely wild scene. There are these massive, furry, white monster corpses – seriously, kaiju-sized – scattered all over the place around the Fortress of Solitude. It’s… a mess. And then Superman just calmly says to Krypto, “Dude, you really need to stop killing… snowmen.” It’s such a bizarre, darkly funny contrast, like Krypto’s just had a really enthusiastic play session with some seriously dangerous creatures!
This announcement explains the mysterious white, furry creatures seen in early toys and promotional materials for the Fortress. Fans previously wondered why these characters didn’t make it into the final movie, leading to theories that a part of the story had been removed.
Visual effects artist Matthew Eberle revealed that a scene showing dead snowmen, which occurred while Krypto was dragging Superman, was actually completed but ultimately removed during the editing process. He stated, “I was there” when the scene was cut (according to Comic Book).
Recently discovered script notes reveal that early versions of the Superman story depicted Krypto as a much more aggressive and brutal character.
