Netflix Sets Maya Hawke to Lead The God of the Woods Series

Only two months after wrapping up Stranger Things, Maya Hawke is back with a new project! She’ll be starring as the main character in a drama series adapted from a popular book.

Netflix has greenlit a new series called The God of the Woods, based on the popular novel by Liz Moore. Liz Hannah and Liz Moore will co-showrun and executive produce the adaptation, with Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty also serving as executive producers through Original Film. Sony Pictures is producing the show.

Maya Hawke Investigates a New Mystery

Netflix’s upcoming series, The God of the Woods, is a family drama set in the Adirondack mountains. It follows the Van Laar family and uncovers long-held secrets, social conflicts, and the mystery of a 13-year-old girl, Barbara Van Laar, who vanished from their summer camp. The disappearance may be connected to a past tragedy, and as secrets emerge, the family’s wealth and power begin to crumble, exposing the negative effects of privilege and abuse.

In the series, Hawke stars as Judy Luptack, a groundbreaking woman as the first female investigator within the Bureau of Criminal Investigation. The character is known for being intelligent and resolute, and the story begins with her investigation into the disappearance of a young girl at a summer camp in upstate New York.

Netflix revealed several new drama series this week, all based on popular books. Among them are The God of the Woods, a new drama, and Enigma Variations, a romance series. They’ve also ordered a 10-episode adaptation of Carley Fortune’s novel, This Summer Will Be Different.

Maya Hawke Is Keeping Busy

Maya Hawke is widely recognized for playing Robin Buckley in the hit series Stranger Things. She also lent her voice to the character of Anxiety in Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out 2, which became the highest-grossing animated film ever, earning over $1.5 billion worldwide. In addition to acting, Hawke co-produced and starred in a film with her father, Wildcat. She has several exciting projects coming up, including the independent film Wishful Thinking and a new installment in The Hunger Games series, Sunrise on the Reaping.

Maya Hawke is a talented actress and musician. She’s released three albums – “Blush” in 2020, “Moss” in 2022, and “Chaos Angel” in 2024 – and is already working on her fourth, “Maitreya Corso,” which is scheduled to come out on May 1, 2026. Despite finishing her role on Stranger Things, Hawke continues to be a very active and successful performer.

Although a release date for The God of the Woods hasn’t been announced, fans can still enjoy Sadie Sink’s popular series Stranger Things on Netflix.
