The competition between streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Crunchyroll is fierce, especially when it comes to anime. While Crunchyroll specializes in anime, Netflix has become the most popular place to watch it thanks to its large number of subscribers. Recently, a highly anticipated new anime series planned for 2026 will now stream on Netflix instead of remaining exclusive to Crunchyroll. Fans of Fullmetal Alchemist will be excited to learn that the latest project from creator Hiromu Arakawa and Studio BONES will be available to stream on Netflix.
If you haven’t heard of it, Daemons of the Shadow Realm began airing in April and features a world quite different from Fullmetal Alchemist. The story of Yuru and Asa quickly grabbed viewers with an art style reminiscent of both Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Given how popular the anime is, it’s no surprise Netflix wanted to add this adaptation – created by the same team behind Fullmetal Alchemist – to its streaming service. Netflix recently announced on social media that several episodes of Daemons of the Shadow Realm will be available starting July 4th. You can find more information about the upcoming release below.
The Appeal of the Daemons

Daemons of the Shadow Realm promised a thrilling, action-filled supernatural story about two siblings caught on opposing sides. The anime was set in a fantastical world, but the first episode surprised viewers by showing that the world of Asa and Yuru isn’t so different from our own. While Yuru lives a peaceful life in a simple, less technologically advanced village, Asa comes from a society that feels very modern and familiar. This revelation happens at a particularly bad time for Yuru.
The anime’s first episode was a shocking twist for both the main character and the audience, as Asa unexpectedly attacked Yuru’s home, causing a major falling out between the siblings. Fortunately, Yuru gained powerful protectors called Left and Right and has been discovering the world of modern civilization. While the first season will have approximately twenty-four episodes, the complete story won’t be finished then. The manga creator, Hiromu Arakawa, is still writing new chapters of Daemons of the Shadow Realm, suggesting there’s a good chance we’ll get another season after the first one concludes.
Studio BONES, known for popular anime like Fullmetal Alchemist and Daemons of the Shadow Realm, has a lot on its plate, even after finishing the My Hero Academia series. Currently, they’re working on several projects, including Marriagetoxin, Bungo Stray Gods, Gachiakuta, and SK8 the Infinity.
