Netflix Users Have Just Hours Left To Watch an Underseen Comic Book Movie

Netflix users don’t have much time left to watch a lesser-known comic book movie that’s been available on the service since 2022. While Netflix is famous for its huge selection of shows and films that are constantly being updated, content also leaves each month. November will see another title removed from the platform.

The movie R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned will be removed from Netflix on November 15th, so if you want to watch it, you don’t have much time left. Released in 2022, it’s a sequel to the 2013 film R.I.P.D., which starred Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges. Both movies are based on a comic book series by Peter M. Lenkov and Lucas Marangon. R.I.P.D. 2 actually tells the origin story of the character Roy Pulsipher, played by Jeffrey Donovan, and takes place before the events of the first film.

R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned Was a Product of the First Film’s Failure

The sequel, R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned, unfortunately suffered from the poor reception of the first film, which was a major box office and critical failure. Despite having well-known actors and being based on established material with an existing fanbase, the original R.I.P.D. didn’t perform well, earning only $78.3 million worldwide on a production budget of $130 to $154 million. It also received very negative reviews, with scores of just 13% from critics and 38% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

The sequel to R.I.P.D., titled Rise of the Damned, appeared to be a low-budget way for Universal Pictures to still profit from the movie’s concept. With a less famous cast and released directly to video, it was a safer financial bet. The lack of marketing meant most people didn’t even know it existed, and whether this was a good strategy is still up for discussion.

R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned wasn’t well-received by critics, and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes gave it a low score of just 26%. Most viewers considered it a cheap and poorly made sequel. However, it was a slight improvement over the first film, avoiding the excessive and outdated CGI that plagued the original. The sequel focused more on practical effects and presented a new Western setting, which offered a more visually interesting and appealing experience.

Where to Stream R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned After It Leaves Netflix?

On November 15th, R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned will leave Netflix, and it may be difficult to find elsewhere. Currently, Netflix is the only streaming service offering the movie, and it’s unknown if it will become available on another platform. You can still rent or buy the film on demand.
