Netflix’s Ghostbusters Show Gets Official Title & New Logo

The title and logo for Netflix’s new Ghostbusters show has been revealed.

Netflix is creating a new animated Ghostbusters series. It was confirmed in May 2026 that the show will premiere in 2027, and original cast member Dan Aykroyd will be an executive producer. Aykroyd famously played Dr. Raymond “Ray” Stantz in multiple Ghostbusters films – including the original, Ghostbusters II, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire – and even made a cameo appearance as a taxi driver in the 2016 film.

I’m so excited! Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation just announced the name of the new animated series – it’s called Ghostbusters: Night Shift! They also showed off the logo, and it’s really cool. It has the classic ‘no ghosts’ symbol, but with a spooky twist – everything’s colored in black and yellow, and there’s even a ghostly hand reaching out! You can see it below, and trust me, you’ll want to!

Along with Dan Aykroyd, Ghostbusters: Night Shift is also executive produced by Ben Hibon, Elliott Kalan, Jason Reitman, Gil Kenan, and Amie Karp. Jason Reitman is the son of Ivan Reitman, the director of the original Ghostbusters films. Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan collaborated on the screenplays for the latest installments in the franchise, Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.

Netflix’s description of the new series says that Ghostbusters will be available for calls, even outside of normal business hours, if you encounter anything spooky. Combined with the series title, this suggests the show will focus on nighttime ghost-hunting. Plus, the logo hints that the ghosts they face will be even more powerful than those seen in previous Ghostbusters movies.

While Night Shift is a fresh addition, it’s not the first animated series in the Ghostbusters franchise. The Real Ghostbusters ran from 1986 to 1991, and Extreme Ghostbusters followed in 1997. This new Netflix show marks the franchise’s return to animated television after a 30-year hiatus, bringing the classic blend of supernatural comedy and paranormal action back to the small screen.

Looking ahead for Ghostbusters films, Netflix and Sony Animation are creating an animated movie directed by Kris Pearn, though details like the title and release date haven’t been announced yet. As for a live-action sequel, nothing is official, but a follow-up to Frozen Empire featuring the Spengler family and returning characters is a possibility, continuing the story from the last two films.

Currently, the Ghostbusters franchise appears to be focusing on animated projects rather than live-action films. The upcoming show, Night Shift, will continue the story on television, and the next movie is also expected to be animated, unless Netflix decides to release it in theaters. Details about which characters will be featured haven’t been revealed yet.
