There are several ways to tell if something has truly become part of pop culture, and getting parodied on SNL is definitely one of them. The season premiere of SNL was hosted by the international sensation Bad Bunny, and when you have a star that big, why not include a few more? That’s what happened when Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters appeared on SNL for the first time – it was hilarious.
As a film buff, I recently stumbled upon something hilarious! It all started with a KPop Demon Hunters skit featuring Bad Bunny, Mikey Day, Sarah Sherman, and Chloe Fineman. Basically, the skit shows four people just chatting about life – you know, typical small talk. Then, when movies come up, this character named Thomas (played by Bad Bunny) just can’t stop talking about KPop Demon Hunters. It’s a really funny bit – I highly recommend checking it out if you haven’t already! It’s surprisingly catchy!
Whenever the conversation turns to movies, someone inevitably mentions classics like One Battle After Another and Frankenstein. That’s usually my cue to chime in because I’m a huge fan of KPop Demon Hunters! But the others always seem a little unimpressed. They then ask if I watch it *with* my kids, which always throws me because, well, I don’t *have* any kids, and honestly, it’s not exactly a family-friendly film anyway!
The discussion shifts to music, and Thomas mentions the movie again. After they brush it off once more, he angrily calls them names and insists it’s not just a fictional film, but is based on a real-life story. He then looks away, and this triggers a sequence where Arden Cho (Rumi), May Hong (Mira), and Ji-young Yoo (Zoey) appear on screen to perform snippets of their popular songs from the movie.
It happens again right before Bowen Yang shows up as the wonderfully wicked Jinu, and then kicks things off with Soda Pop. Next, we get this really funny, but slightly creepy moment with Sherman as she gets possessed – it’s fantastic! That whole bit leads perfectly into a full, live performance of Golden. You can check out the whole delightful skit in the video above.
Netflix’s Biggest Hit

Netflix has released many popular shows and movies over the years, with some becoming cultural touchstones for extended periods. However, KPop Demon Hunters has become even more popular than those, and is now considered Netflix’s most successful film of all time. While that’s a big claim, it was Netflix that gave the film that title, making it difficult to dispute.
The movie quickly became the most popular animated film on Netflix, and it didn’t stop there. It eventually reached over 236 million views and continues to grow, making it the most-watched film on Netflix of all time.
Furthermore, KPop Demon Hunters has been a very successful film for Netflix, too. The streamer even released a sing-along version in cinemas, which quickly sold out worldwide. Remarkably, it earned $18 million in just two days, especially considering it was already available for streaming for over a month during that cinema release. Now, it’s been added to the SNL catalog, marking another achievement for the film.
