Netflix’s New 8-Part Crime Thriller Series Is Quietly A Global Streaming Sensation

Netflix‘s new eight-episode crime series is quietly dominating the global streaming charts.

Netflix has kicked off the year with a strong lineup of crime shows. Viewers can enjoy the limited series His & Hers, starring Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal, which centers around a murder investigation in a small town. The Lincoln Lawyer is back for a fourth season, with Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) now facing a murder trial himself. And for Agatha Christie fans, there’s The Seven Dials Mystery.

Netflix’s new French series, Cash Queens, is quickly becoming a hit around the world. Currently, it’s a Top 10 show in over 30 countries, including France, where it’s number one. It’s also performing well in places like Brazil, Chile, Kenya, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.

Cash Queens, created by Carine Prevot and Olivier Rosemberg, follows five women struggling financially who decide to rob a local bank, believing it will solve all their problems. However, when the robbery doesn’t go as planned, they’re forced to think on their feet and fight for survival.

Starring Rebecca Marder, Zoé Marchal, Naidra Ayadi, Pascale Arbillot, Tya Deslauriers, alongside François Damiens, Sami Outalbali, Olivier Rosemberg, and Jonathan Cohen, the crime series Cash Queens is based on a real-life event. It tells the story of the Gang des Amazones – five women who famously robbed seven banks in Southern France in 1989. This same story also served as inspiration for the 2025 film Unsubmissives and the 1994 comedy Les braqueuses.

The series, called Les Lionnes in French and known internationally as Cash Queens, doesn’t have many online reviews. It currently has a 5.6/10 rating on IMDb based on 156 votes. However, Greg MacArthur of ScreenRant recommends it as a light and enjoyable show to watch quickly.

This series fits comfortably within the popular crime genre, offering a satisfying experience in any format. It’s the kind of show you can easily enjoy without needing to invest in a continuing storyline. While Cash Queens might not be Netflix’s greatest crime drama, many viewers have found it worth checking out.
