With over 100 volumes of detailed backstory and character development in Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga, a longer adaptation makes sense. Netflix’s One Piece aims to capture the grand scope of the source material, and dividing the next major story arc into two seasons demonstrates this commitment.
