After Ash Ketchum fulfilled his lifelong goal of becoming the Pokémon World Champion, he finished his run as the main character of the Pokémon anime. Now, Liko and Roy are the new stars of Pokémon Horizons. While new episodes air weekly in Japan, fans in North America usually have to wait. Fortunately, Netflix is bringing more Pokémon to its streaming service soon, so Western viewers won’t have to wait much longer.
The third season of Pokémon Horizons, titled Pokémon Horizons Season 3: Rising Hope Part 1, arrives on Netflix January 6th. It’s been a year within the show’s storyline since viewers last saw Liko and Roy, who are back as the central characters. This new season will follow the trainers as they investigate a strange pink mist that’s affecting Pokémon around the world, and they’ll be joined by Dot and Ult. Netflix will continue to be the only place to stream Pokémon Horizons for the foreseeable future.
Pokémon’s Anime Adventures
Netflix isn’t releasing episodes of Pokémon Horizons every week, but they are doing a good job of staying relatively current with the Japanese release schedule. Rising Hope Part 1 is the beginning of a three-part story arc that is still ongoing in Japan. Considering how Netflix has released episodes in the past, we can expect more Horizons episodes to be added soon. As the story of Liko and Roy unfolds, many Pokémon fans are also noticing something the anime has been missing for a long time.
It’s been a while since Ash Ketchum’s story ended, and a new Pokémon movie hasn’t been released since 2021’s Secrets of the Jungle. Fans are starting to question whether the new characters, Liko and Roy, will lead their own film. However, Liko and Roy have already appeared in over 150 episodes of the anime, establishing themselves in the Pokémon world, even though they haven’t quite reached the same level of popularity as Ash and Pikachu. Despite the lack of a new movie, the Pokémon franchise remains incredibly successful with its video games, trading cards, and merchandise, and is likely to continue thriving.
I’m really curious to hear what everyone thinks about Pokémon coming back to Netflix later this month! I’d love to know your thoughts – feel free to share them in the comments, and we’re also discussing it all over on the ComicBook Forum if you want to join the conversation there.
