Koei Tecmo has announced a new installment in the Dead or Alive fighting game series. They revealed the news with a brief teaser trailer that also commemorates the franchise’s 30th anniversary. Although a release date hasn’t been set, the trailer confirms the game is being developed for PlayStation 5. You can watch the teaser below.
The preview shows a fight between two popular characters from Dead or Alive: Kasumi and Ryu Hayabusa. Fans will also spot that Ryu has a new look, similar to the one he had in last year’s Ninja Gaiden 4.
The Dead or Alive fighting game series hasn’t had a new installment since Dead or Alive 6 in 2019. It originally began as an arcade game in 1996 and later appeared on PlayStation and Sega Saturn. While Dead or Alive 3 and 4 were first released exclusively for Xbox and Xbox 360, later games, like Dead or Alive 5 (released in 2012), became available on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
The Dead or Alive fighting game series has always been known for its close-quarters combat, developed by the team behind Ninja Gaiden. Each character fights using their own distinct martial arts style. The games center around the Dead or Alive World Combat Championship, a global tournament where the world’s top fighters compete.
