Dungeons & Dragons fans have a few months left to wait for the first major new release of 2026. Ravenloft: The Horrors Within comes out on June 16th, kicking off D&D’s Season of Horror. Pre-orders are now available on D&D Beyond for the digital, physical, and bundled versions of the book. With pre-orders open, more details about what to expect in the new Ravenloft sourcebook have been revealed.
The new Dungeons & Dragons adventure, Ravenloft: The Horrors Within, was revealed in March as part of the 2026 release schedule. Initially, very few details were available, except that it would revisit the classic horror-themed setting. However, the description on the pre-order page has given us a better understanding of what to expect when the book is released later this year, and it appears to be excellent news for fans of horror.
Ravenloft: The Horrors Within Confirms New Horror Subclasses & More

Wizards of the Coast is holding back some details, but the official description of The Horrors Within reveals more about what players and Dungeon Masters can expect. Described as “the complete book of nightmares,” this sourcebook looks to be the go-to resource for official horror adventures in Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. It’s definitely adding a lot of new content to the game.
This book introduces 16 terrifying settings, called “Domains of Dread,” including a completely new cosmic horror location named Innsmouth. It offers a wide range of horror experiences, covering 10 different genres from classic gothic to dark fantasy, and features 17 self-contained adventures. Players will face off against 17 powerful villains, each with detailed stats, alongside a bestiary of 41 monsters and creatures to populate these frightening D&D campaigns. The book also includes plenty of maps, with some available digitally for Maps VTT. And for those interested in character customization, the biggest news is the reveal of the new character subclasses.

The upcoming expansion, Ravenloft: The Horrors Within, introduces a wealth of new options for players, including 7 subclasses, 4 playable species, 4 backgrounds, 2 unique feats, and 9 powerful Dark Gifts. The new subclasses are the Reanimator Artificer, Hollow Warder Ranger, Grave Domain Cleric, College of Spirits Bard, Phantom Rogue, Shadow Sorcery Sorcerer, and Undead Patron Warlock. Many of these concepts were first tested with players in May 2025, giving a preview of the frightening and unique experiences they’ll bring to the game.
The official listing for Ravenloft: The Horrors Within on D&D Beyond features a preview of the book’s eerie artwork. You can find more details and pre-order your copy on the D&D Beyond website. The book will be available in stores and at your local game shop on June 18th.
