Last weekend, Windrose was the most popular game on Steam, selling better than both Crimson Desert and Pragmata. However, it’s been knocked off the top spot by a new first-person shooter, also still in development. This new game is $10 less expensive and was released two weeks more recently, giving it a boost, but it’s still notable that it’s become so popular so quickly, considering the developer’s previous two games weren’t very successful.
Currently, the most popular game on Steam is Far Far West, a first-person shooter for 1-4 players. Developed by Evil Raptor and published by Fireshine Games, it’s earned an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating – the highest possible on the platform – and is also the best-selling game. In just a few days, it’s received almost 7,000 user reviews, with 97% of players giving it a positive rating.
An Unexpected Steam Hit
Before 2026, almost no one predicted Far Far West would top the Steam charts, especially considering the developer, Evil Raptor’s, past performance. Their 2020 game, Pumpkin Jack, has only received around 2,800 user reviews in six years – a solid start, but nowhere near the success of their latest title. In 2024, they released Akimbot, which didn’t gain much traction, currently holding only 628 reviews. Many would have considered that a setback. Clearly, Far Far West has been a breakthrough hit, significantly raising Evil Raptor’s profile.
Right now, you can get Far Far West for 10% off until May 5th, bringing the price down to $17.99 from its usual $19.99. The game lets you play as a robot cowboy – you can build a bounty-hunting crew or go it alone! Either way, your mission is to find and eliminate dangerous targets assigned by the town sheriff.
It’s unlikely that Far Far West will stay the most popular game for much longer. Several major releases are coming soon, like Subnautica 2 and Forza Horizon 6. If it can remain popular until then, those two games will almost certainly take its place. Still, it’s a fantastic accomplishment for Evil Raptor.
