New Free Dungeons & Dragons Expansion Brings Breakout Hit Umamusume: Pretty Derby to the TTRPG

The horse racing game Umamusume: Pretty Derby became a global hit after its release in June 2025. It quickly rose to the top of Steam’s charts and, as expected, won Best Mobile Game at the 2025 Game Awards. The popularity of Umamusume even extended to a limited theatrical release in the United States with the anime film Umamusume: Pretty Derby – Beginning of a New Era. Now, fans can experience the world of their favorite horse girls in a completely new way – through Dungeons & Dragons.

There’s a lot of official content available for Dungeons & Dragons. However, sometimes you’re looking for something unique that blends D&D with another interest. That’s where fan-made content comes in. Recently, a creator has released a free expansion that combines D&D 5e with Umamusume – a collaboration many fans will be excited about!

Umamusume: Pretty Derby Gets Unofficial Dungeons & Dragons Collab

Streamer Soren of Asgard recently created a fun set of rules to adapt the anime Umamsume: Pretty Derby into a Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition game. It’s a surprisingly great combination! Considering the characters are horse girls born to race, they actually fit really well into a fantasy world like D&D. Similar to the KPop Demon Hunters expansion, this unofficial supplement allows anime fans to play as their beloved characters in a tabletop role-playing game. The rules use the standard D&D dice system, making it easy to learn and start playing.

I recently checked out this free homebrew for Umamusume in D&D, and it’s surprisingly good! It’s a short, 5-page PDF, but it really nails the core idea of what a D&D version of the Umamusume: Pretty Derby anime would feel like. It gives you a little backstory on the world of Umamusume and explains why one of these horse girls might end up on a D&D adventure. It’s super helpful with things like naming your character and figuring out how the unique traits of the Umamusume girls work in a tabletop RPG. The coolest part? It even includes different subraces based on the specialities you see in the Umamusume game itself! You can grab it for free on The Homebrewery, and I definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a fun and unique D&D experience.

Beyond character details, this guide explains how to run competitive races with Umamusume-inspired characters in Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. It covers calculating a character’s stamina and rolling checks to see how well they perform based on the race length. The racing strategies will feel familiar to players of the mobile game and affect which stats are used during checks. While not a complete campaign, it’s a great addition to bring some horse girl racing excitement to your next D&D game if you’re interested. Now, I need to get my group on board to try these rules in our next one-shot adventure!
