Power: Origins: Courtney Kemp Shares Filming Update For Power Prequel

just got a major filming update!

I’m so excited for the Power prequel! It’s going to show us how Ghost and Tommy first started out, with Spence Moore II playing a young Ghost and Charlie Mann as Tommy. It’s set in the late 90s and early 2000s, and we’ll get to see how they built their drug business in New York City, going from just starting out to becoming major players in the city’s drug world. It’s going to be amazing to see their whole journey!

Grant Hermanns from ScreenRant interviewed Courtney Kemp, the creator of Power, to discuss the upcoming series. They talked about production, which began in New Jersey last year, and what viewers can anticipate from the show’s new main characters.

We’ve been filming for a good while now, and I can’t wait for audiences to see it. The actors playing Ghost and Tommy have truly delivered – it’s incredible how well they’ve handled the pressure and complexity of those roles.

The show is currently expected to premiere between late 2026 and early 2027, though a firm date hasn’t been announced. It’s already noteworthy for having a larger number of episodes than previous seasons of Power. Season 1 will consist of 18 episodes, significantly more than the usual 10 episodes seen in earlier seasons.

Alongside the previously announced cast of Moore and Mann – who will be playing the iconic roles made famous by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora – Power: Origins will also star Jason Dirden (from Power Book III: Raising Kanan) as Traymond Stinson. Jennifer Ferrin will play Tommy’s mother, Kate Egan, and Lizzy DeClement joins the cast as nurse Jill Wexler. Lenny Platt will portray finance professional Lenny Seidel, Armani Gabriel will play J-Boogs, a member of the street crew, and Everett Osborne will appear as football player Omay Moreau. Mekai Curtis will return as Kanan Stark.

The upcoming series Power: Origins will feel different from previous Power shows. Starz describes it as a lively and energetic look at an earlier time in the Power universe, focusing on the bold ambition of young men striving for success and a legendary status.

Power: Origins is the fourth new series created from the Power universe, following the recent finales of Power Book II: Ghost and Power Book IV: Force. Power Book III: Raising Kanan will also conclude with its fifth season, premiering June 12th on Starz. Beyond Origins, another spin-off, Power: Legacy, is in development from Gary Lennon and Kendra Chapman. Legacy will be set in the present day, continuing the story after the events of Force, and will feature returning stars Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora as Ghost and Tommy.
