Many PlayStation fans who own a PS5 believe a new God of War game will be announced shortly. It’s been three years since God of War Ragnarok came out on PS5, and seven years since the 2018 God of War was rebooted. Considering the four-year gap between those two games, many predict the next God of War will be released in 2026 – a claim that has also been supported by recent reports. But if that’s the timeline, why haven’t we heard anything official yet? Perhaps that’s about to change.
On Reddit, some PlayStation fans excitedly noticed a curious post from the community manager at Santa Monica Studios – the team behind the GOW series. They saw the manager quote-tweeted a post about how relieved the Insomniac Games team must have been after recently revealing Marvel’s Wolverine. The Santa Monica Studios community manager wrote, “I can’t wait until it’s my turn.” This immediately sparked some interest among fans.
“They Might Be Revealing Something Soon”
After this post went live, people started guessing that the studio is preparing to announce their next game. A discussion on the Gaming Leaks and Rumors Reddit page suggested the PlayStation developer “might be revealing something soon.” While some commenters quickly dismissed this as wishful thinking, others are just as optimistic that there’s some truth to it.
One commenter wrote, “I think this will be the last game revealed at The Game Awards.” Another person added, “Ragnarok came out in 2022, so we can expect to see something new from Santa Monica Studio either next year or in 2027.”
More Than One Potential Announcement
If this is hinting at a new God of War reveal, it likely points to one of two possibilities, given the two God of War games currently rumored. The most expected is a sequel to God of War Ragnarok. However, there’s also a heavily discussed God of War game that’s a metroidvania-style spin-off, acting as a prequel to the original God of War trilogy. While there’s been talk of a remastered trilogy, it’s unlikely that would be teased in advance.
With so much talk online, it looks like a new God of War game might be announced soon, although it’s unclear if the community manager mentioned earlier is hinting at it. Historically, both PlayStation and God of War have been featured at The Game Awards, so as someone pointed out, if we’re going to see Kratos revealed this year, it will likely be at the December event.
