New Infamous Game For PS5/PS6 Reportedly Revealed

I’m so excited to hear rumors that Sony is bringing back the Infamous series! It’s still unclear if the new game will be for the PS5, PS6, or both, but just the possibility is awesome. The biggest surprise, though, is that it sounds like Sucker Punch, the team behind all the previous Infamous games, isn’t working on this one. They’re probably too busy with Ghost of Tsushima, which makes sense, but it’s still a bit strange to think someone else will be taking the reins.

A new report from VGC’s Jordan Middler – a source who’s been accurate at times, but not always – suggests something related to the series is in development at PlayStation, but not with Sucker Punch Productions, the studio behind the previous games. Details are scarce, and it’s unclear if this project is a completely new game, a remake, or simply a remastered version. It’s also unknown which PlayStation team is working on it. There’s currently no information about when this might be released, or even which PlayStation console it’s intended for – it could be for the PS5, PS6, or both.

Forgotten PlayStation Series

The Infamous series began in 2009 with the first game on PlayStation 3. It was a popular open-world action-adventure title, earning a score of 85 on Metacritic and strong sales. This led PlayStation to quickly approve a sequel from Sucker Punch Productions, which launched in 2011 to similar praise, scoring 83 on Metacritic. In 2014, the series moved to the PS4 with Infamous Second Son. Unlike the previous sequel, this game wasn’t a direct continuation of the story. It proved to be the best-selling game in the Infamous series and one of PlayStation’s top-selling PS4 titles, but despite its success, Sucker Punch Productions decided not to continue with the series.

Two separate expansions came out during this time. The first, Infamous: Festival of Blood (2011), received a score of 78 on Metacritic. The second, and most recent release, Infamous First Light, is the lowest-rated in the series, scoring a 73 on Metacritic.

Fans have long hoped for a new Infamous game, believing the series has a lot more to offer. However, Sucker Punch Productions is currently focused on the successful Ghost of Tsushima series, making a new Infamous unlikely. While Sony sometimes switches developers between projects, it doesn’t happen often. Therefore, a remake or remaster of an existing Infamous title seems more probable than a completely new game.
