Nintendo had an unusual year leading up to the expected mid-2025 release of the Nintendo Switch 2, and things continue to be different in 2026. Fans anticipated a major Nintendo Direct presentation in February, but it didn’t happen. While Nintendo did have a Partner Showcase, they haven’t revealed much about their own new games planned for 2026. With Summer Game Fest and other summer events coming up, many are hoping Nintendo will finally share some news. Now, we’re getting some clues about when that announcement might arrive.
Gaming fans have a busy first week of June ahead with Summer Games Fest on the 6th and several smaller events beforehand. Now, it looks like we might also hear about Nintendo’s future game plans in mid-June. With Yoshi and the Mysterious Book launching on May 21st, many are hoping Nintendo will soon share details about the next game specifically for the Switch 2.
June 2026 Nintendo Direct Looks More Likely Following Insider Comments

Nintendo has released several popular games this year, including the new Mario Tennis and a revival of the Virtual Boy. Pokemon Pokopia was a huge success for both Game Freak and Nintendo. However, with Yoshi and the Mysterious Book launching soon, we’re nearing the end of confirmed new first-party games. Beyond a few updated versions of older titles like Fitness Boxing 3, the game schedule is fairly bare until Pokemon Winds and Waves. This likely indicates Nintendo is preparing to announce some new projects.
With the upcoming remake of Star Fox 64 planned for late June, it’s safe to assume Nintendo has more big games coming in 2026. That means we’re likely to see another Nintendo Direct presentation soon, showcasing their first-party titles. Nintendo usually holds these presentations several times a year, but 2025 was different because of the launch of the Switch 2. Since we didn’t get a Direct in February – when they usually happen – a summer presentation seems very probable. Rumors about a June Direct have been going around for a while, and now a trusted source is reinforcing those rumors, suggesting a specific timeframe for the event.
During a Twitch stream on May 19th, journalist Jeff Grubb shared his predictions for the next Nintendo Direct. While discussing the game Subnautica 2, around the 2 hour and 15 minute mark, he said he expects the Direct to happen before the middle of June. He mentioned it will likely coincide with Summer Games Fest, but doesn’t have official confirmation that it will be a comprehensive Direct. However, Grubb believes a major announcement is likely needed, considering how little information there is about Nintendo’s game releases for the rest of 2026.

This new information supports what industry insiders, including Nate the Hate, have been predicting about the timing of announcements. Since Nintendo hasn’t announced any new games after the Star Fox remake, it’s probable they’re preparing to reveal more games later this year. While Nintendo hasn’t officially said when their next presentation will be, many trustworthy sources are pointing to a June event, and Nintendo has held similar presentations in June before. This makes a Nintendo Direct happening soon seem very likely.
