To celebrate Batman Day, DC has released a new look back at the *LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight* game. For a decade, DC has honored Batman with a special day filled with content on social media, and sometimes even by bringing classic Batman films back to theaters. *The Dark Knight* is often shown in theaters for the occasion, which is always exciting for fans. While we likely won’t hear much about *The Batman Part II* this year due to its release being further off, DC still found a fun way to mark the celebration.
Last month, Warner Bros. and TT Games revealed they’re teaming up again to create a brand-new LEGO Batman game, the first in over ten years, called LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. This game isn’t a direct sequel; it’s a fresh take on the Batman story, retelling his origins in a unique way. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will draw inspiration from various Batman films throughout the years, incorporating elements like character appearances, lines of dialogue, key story moments, and the overall visual style.
James Gunn Talks LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight for Batman Day 2025
A new video released for Batman Day offers a behind-the-scenes look at *LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight*, featuring insights from James Gunn, artist Jim Lee, and the game’s developers. The 8-minute featurette includes never-before-seen gameplay and reveals the game’s origin story: it begins with a young Bruce Wayne before his parents’ death, showing his training with the League of Shadows. Gunn also shares what makes the game particularly appealing to Batman enthusiasts and his personal appreciation for the character.
I’ve been checking out *LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight*, and honestly, the gameplay is really interesting. It’s clearly taking a lot of inspiration from the *Arkham* games, which is awesome. It looks like the developers, TT Games, are really focusing on making the combat more involved – almost like a rhythm-based beat ’em up where using gadgets is super important. Overall, it seems like a really cool game and I think a lot of Batman fans who’ve been waiting for something new are going to love it.
We currently don’t have a firm release date for *LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight*, other than sometime in 2026. While rumors point to an early 2026 launch, which seems likely, it could still release next summer despite *GTA 6*’s expected dominance. *LEGO Batman*’s appeal to families would allow it to succeed even alongside such a major release.
