Colleen Hoover, the author behind the popular and often debated book-to-film adaptation, has now secured deals for multiple movies. Her latest adaptation premiered on Paramount+ on December 23rd and quickly became the platform’s most-watched movie, even though critics and audiences have very different opinions about it.
As a total book-to-movie fanatic, I have to admit Colleen Hoover is everywhere. Even with all the drama surrounding It Ends With Us, she’s already got another adaptation out! This one, Regretting You, stars Dave Franco and Allison Williams, and it’s a really emotional story. It centers on a mother and daughter dealing with some incredibly tough times – a huge tragedy and some shocking news that completely changes how they see each other, and themselves. It’s full of betrayal, secrets, and figuring out what family really means.
Critics And Audiences Could Not Have More Different Views Of The Film
The movie Regretting You received very different reactions from critics and audiences. While critics gave it a low score of 27% on Rotten Tomatoes, viewers rated it much higher with an 86% approval rating on Popcornmeter. Surya Komal from Just For Movie Freaks noted that the film had potential to be a powerful family drama, but ultimately felt it relied too much on predictable tropes and lacked depth.
While some viewers found the plot a bit rambling, many praised the movie for achieving its goals. One viewer highlighted the film’s powerful exploration of regret and how a single event can change how we view our lives and family. They especially noted the believable and moving connection between Allison Williams and Mckenna Grace, who played the mother and daughter with genuine emotion. The story also resonated by subtly touching on the challenges of growing up. Another viewer called it a successful adaptation that should please fans of the genre while also appealing to a wider audience. They described it as a surprisingly engaging drama with a committed cast that effectively balances themes of love, pain, and a touch of wistful romance.
People either strongly love or dislike Colleen Hoover, but her books are continuing to be adapted for the screen. Two more of her novels are scheduled to be released as films next year, and Regretting You remains a popular title on Paramount+.
