A new Paranormal Activity movie is officially being made, almost five years after the last film in the series was released.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Pictures is once again working with Blumhouse on a new Paranormal Activity movie. James Wan, who has been involved with the franchise for years, is also joining the project through his production company, Atomic Monster, which recently merged with Blumhouse. Wan shared a statement about his return to the series.
I’ve always been a big fan of the original Paranormal Activity – it was incredibly effective at building suspense and making what you didn’t see truly frightening. I’m excited to build on that success and help take this found-footage horror series in a new direction.
Jason Blum celebrated the new Paranormal Activity movie, calling it a fresh start for the franchise that launched Blumhouse. He also expressed his excitement about working with Wan on the project. Blum joked about how the budget had increased since the original, low-budget film, and shared his enthusiasm for partnering with Paramount again.
I’ll be working closely with James on this next installment of the series. We have a slightly bigger budget than the original $15,000, but the warning still applies – don’t watch it by yourself! We’re excited to team up with Josh Greenstein, Dana Goldberg, David Ellison, Jeff Shell, and everyone at Paramount to bring Paranormal Activity back to audiences.
I was so excited to hear from Greenstein and Goldberg at Paramount about the new Paranormal Activity film! They said they’re absolutely thrilled to bring the franchise back with Jason Blum and James Wan, calling them two of the most creative forces in horror. They especially praised Jason for making Paranormal Activity a huge global phenomenon, and they’re really looking forward to seeing what happens when his talent combines with James’ unique vision and incredible storytelling ability. It sounds like a fantastic partnership!
