Wireless controllers are now standard for console gaming, but they often have flaws. The PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller is excellent for playing games, but it can have some problems. One common issue is the battery life, which can change a lot depending on how someone plays, what games they’re playing, and which features they’re using. Fortunately, future DualSense controllers will be built slightly differently, which should help improve this issue.
The PlayStation 5 DualSense Controllers Are Getting Better Battery Life
The next version of the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller is expected to last longer on a single charge, according to TwistedVoxel. The updated controller, model number CFI-ZCT2W, features a redesigned internal layout with a new BDM-060 board. By removing some parts, like a secondary microphone, the developers have streamlined the electronics to improve battery life, giving players more uninterrupted playtime.
From now on, the improved controllers will come standard with every PS5 Pro and Slim package. They’ll also be used for any new, special edition controllers, like the upcoming Gold Limited Edition inspired by Ghost of Yōtei. This is one of several upgrades Sony is making to the PS5, including a new cooling system that should make the console last longer. This is good news for players who have had issues with the DualSense controller since the PS5 first came out, and it could finally fix the biggest problems with it.
The DualSense Controller Is About To Get A Lot Better
The DualSense controllers look and feel great, but their battery life hasn’t been ideal. Most controllers should last between 6 and 8 hours, but many players found their DualSense controllers needed recharging after only 1 or 2 hours of use. This is likely because the controllers have a lot of features that continue to use power even when you’re not actively playing.
The DualSense controller’s battery drains quickly due to features like the microphone, speaker volume, and strong vibration. Many players don’t even realize these features are using power. Even if you turn them off, the battery life still isn’t great compared to controllers for Xbox or Nintendo Switch, which can last over 20 hours, especially with extended battery packs or modifications from companies like SCUF. Honestly, the battery life is the only real downside to the PS5’s DualSense controller for me.
I’ve been using controllers for years, and while they generally work fine, it’s always annoying when the battery dies after just a few hours, especially when I’m really getting into a good game. I’m really excited about these improvements to the DualSense controller, particularly because they’re addressing the battery drain from things like the built-in microphone. It might just convince me to upgrade, but I’ll definitely be double-checking the model number to make sure I get the one with the better battery life!
