New Report Confirms Pokemon TCG Massively Increased Production in 2026 (But It’s Still Not Enough)

Pokemon cards are more popular than ever, but that means they’re often sold out. Many collectors are wondering why The Pokemon Company doesn’t make more cards. While the company is currently producing as many cards as possible to keep up with demand, it’s still not enough. Recent data shows they’re actually printing a lot of cards – they’re doing everything they can to meet the high demand.

The Pokemon Company is limited by how many cards its factories can currently produce, and ensuring those cards are high quality and reach stores is also a challenge. While they’re building a new, larger headquarters to address this, it won’t be finished until at least 2027. Recent reports from the Pokemon TCG website PokeBeach confirm that the company is currently producing cards at its absolute highest capacity, with production numbers significantly increased compared to previous years.

Pokemon TCG Printed 10 Billion More Cards This Year, But Fans Are Still Struggling to Beat Out Scalpers

The Pokémon Company recently shared data showing just how many Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) cards were printed globally between March 2025 and March 2026. The report confirms that there are now more Pokémon cards available than ever before, even though it might not seem that way. Currently, the TCG is printed in 16 languages and sold in 90 countries—a significant increase from when the game first launched and was only available in about 30 countries. Despite this large production, demand continues to exceed supply, so The Pokémon Company is working on ways to increase production. They’re doing everything they can to meet the needs of fans.

A recent report shows that over 85 billion Pokémon cards were printed in the year from March 2025 to March 2026. This is about 10 billion more than the 75 billion printed the year before. Since 2022, production has been increasing by approximately 10 billion cards each year, likely due to the growing popularity of Pokémon worldwide. PokeBeach reports the following global print numbers for the Pokémon Trading Card Game over the last few years:

  • 2026: 85 billion+ cards
  • 2025: 75 billion+ cards
  • 2024: 64.8 billion+ cards
  • 2023: 52.9 billion+ cards
  • 2022: 43.2 billion+ cards
  • 2021: 34.1 billion+ cards
  • 2020: 30.4 billion+ cards

Since around 2021, both the demand for and production of Pokémon cards have significantly increased. Starting in 2022, The Pokémon Company ramped up production by about 10 billion cards annually and expanded its reach, offering cards in 16 languages—up from 13—and distributing to 90 countries, compared to 77 previously. This clearly demonstrates a growing global interest in Pokémon cards, and current trends suggest this popularity will continue.

Over the past few years, interest in Pokemon cards has grown, boosted by the Pokemon TCG Pocket app and the idea of collecting cards as an investment. Since the Prismatic Evolutions set (focused on Eevee), it’s become difficult to find Pokemon cards in stores across the U.S. This isn’t just a problem here, though – Japan is now taking steps to prevent people from buying up all the cards, like requiring a Pokemon quiz. Hopefully, with The Pokemon Company’s new factories starting production, more cards will become available for fans instead of resellers.
