Stephen King has a new novel planned for release later this year, and it’s connected to a well-known story universe he’s worked with before. Recently, King has published several books, including two novels featuring the character Holly Gibney – Holly and Never Flinch – and a collection of short stories called You Like It Darker. He’s been hinting at a return to one of his most popular worlds, but he’s also a little hesitant, as this project means writing on his own for a series he originally created with another author.
Stephen King recently revealed on Instagram that he’s releasing the third book in the Talisman series, titled Other Worlds Than These, later this year. Details were also posted on his official website. The book will be available for purchase on October 6, 2026, which is welcome news after the planned Talisman movie, directed by the Duffer Brothers, was cancelled.
Stephen King Completing Talisman Trilogy Without Peter Straub

Okay, so as a big horror and fantasy fan, I remember when Stephen King and Peter Straub teamed up to write The Talisman back in ’84. It’s a really cool story about this kid, Jack Sawyer, whose mom gets sick. She doesn’t want any treatment, so Jack hears about this magical talisman that might be able to heal her. The catch? He has to go to this bizarre, almost parallel world called the Territories to find it. It’s a freaky place because it’s basically another version of Earth, with the same people living there, but if someone dies in one world, their ‘other self’ can cross over. It’s a pretty wild concept!
This created a perilous world for the boy, filled with dangerous creatures in the Tettirities. Years later, in 2001, Stephen King and Peter Straub brought back the character Jack in Black House. Now a retired detective, Jack investigates a string of murders in a small Wisconsin town, unknowingly returning to a place called the Territories – a place he has no memory of from his childhood. The surprising connection? The Territories is actually another name for Mid-World, the setting of the Dark Tower series. In Black House, Jack comes face-to-face with the Crimson King, the main villain from the Dark Tower story.
Peter Straub passed away in 2022 at the age of 79, leading many to believe the ‘Talisman’ series was over. However, Stephen King revealed they had discussed a third book and he was thinking about completing it, using their previous ideas as a tribute to the first two installments. He has now done so. This final book in the trilogy sees Jack facing a dangerous threat: a group of infected teenagers from America and the sinister forces of the Gullet, who together threaten to destroy both our world and all others.
We have even more good news to share! The book will be available in hardcover, as an audiobook, and as an eBook starting October 6th. It will also include 30 exclusive black and white illustrations by artist Gabriel Rodriguez, known for his work on the comic book series Locke & Key, co-created with Joe Hill.
