The anime series Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games will premiere on July 7th as part of the Summer 2026 season. Currently, there’s no word on when it will be available outside of Japan. Shota Ihata is directing the series at diomedéa, with Wataru Watari writing the scripts. Mayuko Matsumoto is responsible for the character designs, Kana Hashiguchi is composing the music, and Hanabie will perform the opening theme, “Inochi Mijikashi Taisuru Otomeyo.” The show is also collaborating with professional fighting game players to add authenticity.
The new Street Fighter 6 anime is aiming for authenticity, and Kadokawa’s own professional gaming team helped create the in-game footage. Adding to the realism, well-known e-sports player Aru will voice the character Flamberge as a commentator. He joins a voice cast that also includes Ikumi Hasegawa as Aya Mitsuki, Kana Ichinose as Mio Yorue, Sayaka Senbongi as Yu Inui, Shino Shimoji as Tamaki Ichinose, and Maria Naganawa as Arisa Fujimiya. Like the anime Hi-Score Girl, the show will use actual gameplay, which should make it feel very genuine.
