Co-op survival games are more popular than ever, and a brand new one has just been announced. It blends thrilling, immersive teamwork with the freedom of open-world survival, offering stunning visuals and a unique progression system. The game features cooperative exploration, extensive crafting, and a world that dynamically responds to your choices. Whether you play solo or with friends, it’s designed to be a challenging adventure that pushes you to your limits, forcing difficult decisions and testing your mental fortitude as you face the unknown.
Brightfall is a survival game for 1 to 4 players, set on a mysterious, cursed island inspired by Celtic folklore – an island deliberately left off English maps. While there are many survival games available, Brightfall is unique because of its spooky 17th-century atmosphere, its innovative ‘Living Darkness’ system, and its roguelite gameplay, which changes the island’s layout each time you play. If you’re looking for a new survival game to get hooked on, Brightfall is definitely one to keep an eye on.
Brightfall takes place in 1666 and starts with a compelling mystery: you wake up stranded on an island the government denies exists – a place said to be the origin of every plague ever recorded. Hidden by fog and protected by storms, the island is notorious for making prisoners disappear. A mysterious, corrupting force called the Living Darkness plagues the land, where light isn’t simply useful, but essential for survival.
In Brightfall, light isn’t just for seeing – it’s essential for survival. The further you venture, the more the forest changes, and the more your sanity is at risk. You’ll need to gather resources, build campfires, and learn new skills to stay safe and push deeper into the darkness. The more gloom you face, the stronger your light source needs to be to protect your mind.
Brightfall can be played alone or with up to three friends. The game focuses on working together to collect materials, battle monsters, improve your base, and save each other from losing your minds. If you play solo, a helpful Celtic spirit will guide and heal you. Playing with others creates intense moments, because if a player falls, they become a dangerous enemy—a Shadow—and can only be saved with a rare Resurrection Token. These tokens are limited, so teamwork is essential!
In Brightfall, when your team is defeated, the island transforms for each new attempt. The layout changes completely – forests, paths, and ruins all shift, and you’ll discover new areas. However, you don’t start from scratch! You keep everything you’ve learned, any blueprints you’ve unlocked, your skills, character roles, and overall progress, letting you venture further with each expedition.
Playing games with friends has become incredibly popular lately. While survival horror games have been at the forefront of this trend, many other types of games are joining in. Multiplayer games have always been around, but in the past, they were mostly focused on competition. Games like Brightfall are now focusing on bringing players together to work towards a common goal.
