Next Xbox’s SoC Codenamed “Magnus,” 2027 Launch is the “Best Case Scenario” – Rumor

Even though there have been concerns that rising RAM costs might push back the release of new gaming consoles, Microsoft is still planning to launch its next Xbox in 2027. AMD CEO Lisa Su confirmed this, stating that development of the new Xbox, which will use a custom AMD processor, is on track for a 2027 release.

Jez Corden from Windows Central has talked to sources who say the new system-on-a-chip (SoC) is codenamed “Magnus.” It seems some people familiar with the project were surprised by AMD’s CEO, Lisa Su, mentioning it publicly. This is because, beyond comments from Microsoft’s Phil Spencer about new hardware and Sarah Bond describing a “very premium” console, there haven’t been any details about when it might actually come out.

According to Corden, Microsoft is also working hard internally to make this happen. The launch depends on improving Windows 11 and other details. The Windows and Xbox teams are working closely together to create a smooth, console-like experience on Xbox. Currently, 2027 is the earliest possible release date, but that relies on everything going as planned.

The price is still a major question mark, and apparently, Microsoft hasn’t even decided on one yet – much like Valve did with the Steam Machine. While it could be expensive, reports suggest Microsoft is considering working with multiple manufacturers, like Asus, to offer different price points. Details are still unclear, but it’s likely we’ll see a more powerful Xbox model in addition to the standard console.

Only time will reveal the company’s plans. We’ll need to monitor global events and see how things unfold, particularly since hardware sales are declining.
