Paramount has cancelled another popular animated series from Nickelodeon, continuing a worrying pattern. The company is changing its strategy and moving away from children’s programming – a trend we’ve also seen at Warner Bros. – which has led to the cancellation of reboots of two classic franchises, Dora the Explorer and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This is particularly disappointing for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans, as it feels like a repeat of past issues.
The animated series Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a spin-off of the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem movie, has been cancelled after two seasons. While the second season will air on Nicktoons next year following a December debut on Paramount+, this marks the second Ninja Turtles show in a row to be cancelled after just two seasons.
Ninja Turtles Just Can’t Catch a Break

Both the recent animated series, Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and its predecessor, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, have been cancelled after just two seasons. Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which premiered on Nickelodeon in 2018 and later moved to Nicktoons, didn’t have much time to build a following. Though its second season was cut short, the show did receive a concluding movie that continued the story after the series finale.
Even with the recent success of the Mutant Mayhem movie, the Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series is ending soon. This is especially disappointing for longtime fans, as it’s the shortest animated Ninja Turtles show ever made. It will only have 24 episodes, far fewer than the 39 episodes of Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and significantly less than the 100+ episodes of the 2012 series. It’s strange that the franchise seems to be getting fewer opportunities despite the new movie releases.
What Does This Mean for Ninja Turtles’ Future?

Looking ahead, fans can probably expect another Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series to appear. The franchise has been rebooted many times over the years to appeal to new audiences, and it seems like it’s time for another one. While the movies are still doing well, a great Ninja Turtles show is always a welcome addition.
I’ve been hearing that Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles might not be over yet. Even though new episodes aren’t being made for Paramount+, they’re talking to other streaming services about picking up the show. And we’ve seen this happen before – if a show finds a new home, sometimes the original platform even decides to make more episodes themselves.
