Fans are eagerly awaiting The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which promises to expand the Super Mario Bros. Movie universe with exciting new worlds. The sequel, from Nintendo and Illumination, is going bigger and bolder, featuring beloved characters like Yoshi and Rosalina, and taking audiences on adventures to various locations inspired by the Mario games.
With the movie’s marketing now in full swing, Nintendo and Illumination have revealed on Instagram that the characters will travel through six distinct worlds. They shared posters showcasing each location, and it’s clear the film, The Super Mario Galaxy, is pulling inspiration from various Nintendo games like Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Bros. 2. This sequel promises exciting new power-ups and could potentially launch a broader Nintendo film series.
Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Jack Black are back for the new movie, and Brie Larson, Donald Glover, and Benny Safdie join the cast. It hits theaters on April 1st.
Super Mario Galaxy Movie’s Major New Locations Revealed
Mushroom Kingdom

After seeing the Super Mario Bros. Movie, I think a lot of us already know and love the Mushroom Kingdom! It’s such a vibrant, colorful place, and it’s where Princess Peach and all the Toads live. It really captured my imagination!
The upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie will likely start in the Mushroom Kingdom, showing the events that lead up to Bowser Jr.’s attempt to rescue Bowser. This rescue mission will then kick off a much larger adventure that takes the characters across the galaxy.
Gateway Galaxy

In the Mario games, the Gateway Galaxy is the first world players visit in Super Mario Galaxy. It’s characterized by its rolling green hills and a central castle, creating a bright and cheerful atmosphere similar to the Mushroom Kingdom.
The movie Super Mario Galaxy presents the Gateway Galaxy as a bustling spaceport, acting like a highway connecting different universes. We see the non-player character R.O.B. there, and the casino world where Peach battles Birdo and other familiar Nintendo characters also appears to be located within the Gateway Galaxy.
Toastarena Town

Toastarena Town, a dry and sandy location, will play a significant role in the Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
Marketing materials show Mario and Luigi biking across sand dunes in ponchos, in a setting inspired by the Super Mario Odyssey game. The area is inhabited by the Toastarenans, who ask Mario to help restore heat to the desert by battling the Broodans on top of an upside-down pyramid.
Fossil Falls

The trailers for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie also give us a glimpse of Fossil Falls, where a fearsome T-Rex appears. This location originally comes from the Super Mario Odyssey game, and we see in the clips that Yoshi, Toad, and Baby Mario and Luigi will all be visiting this prehistoric area in the film.
Honeyhive Galaxy

I’m so excited to see the Honeyhive Galaxy come to life in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie! It looks absolutely gorgeous in the trailers – all bright and floral, just like the game. I can’t wait to see this world on the big screen!
The Honey Queen and her bee hive first appeared in the Super Mario Galaxy game, where Mario gains the Bee power-up. Issa Rae will voice the Honey Queen in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. In the game, Mario helps the Queen fight off Bowser’s forces, so it’s likely she’ll play a similar helpful role in the film.
Comet Observatory

The last location revealed from posters for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is the Comet Observatory. This is where Princess Rosalina and the Lumas live, and in the game, it serves as a central meeting point.
Princess Rosalina will appear in The Super Mario Movie, and trailers reveal her home, the Comet Observatory, is under attack by the villain Megaleg. This attack appears to result in her being kidnapped during the events of the film.
