Nintendo Still Has 3 Huge Games Releasing Before the End of 2025 (& 1 Is a Switch 2 Exclusive)

The past year has been relatively quiet for Nintendo, especially while everyone waited for the new Nintendo Switch 2. Even after its release, things haven’t felt fully revitalized. While a few games have launched specifically for the Switch 2, 2025 hasn’t seen many major, brand-new Nintendo titles. Fortunately, several highly anticipated Nintendo games are still scheduled to release later this year.

The Nintendo Switch 2 released with the new *Mario Kart World*, which has done fairly well. However, many players are eager for more new games from Nintendo. A few months later, Nintendo released *Donkey Kong Bonanza*, adding to the limited number of games only available on the Switch 2. Because there haven’t been many Switch 2 games yet, some people found the recent Nintendo Direct presentation disappointing. But don’t count out 2025 – several major games are still planned for the Nintendo console.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Nintendo has traditionally been the best place to play the newest Pokemon games. The upcoming title, *Legends: Z-A*, is different – it’s not a simple spin-off, but it’s also not a traditional main series game. Still, it’s the most significant new Pokemon console game since *Pokemon Scarlet & Violet* released in 2022, making it a highly anticipated release coming on October 16th.

The new Pokémon game, *Pokémon Legends: Z-A*, will be available on both the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. This means fans can play whether they’ve upgraded to the new console or not. Many players, like me, are especially interested in the bundle that includes *Pokémon Legends: Z-A* and the Switch 2, as *Scarlet & Violet* performs significantly better on the newer hardware.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Nintendo has announced that *Metroid Prime 4: Beyond* will be released on December 4th, 2025! Fans have been eagerly awaiting this new installment in the *Metroid Prime* series starring Samus Aran, and Nintendo expects it to be a major success during the holiday season. The announcement came during the recent Nintendo Direct, finally giving fans a confirmed release date.

Similar to *Legends: Z-A*, this game will be available on both the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. This isn’t a Switch 2 exclusive, meaning players don’t need the new console to enjoy the game, which is great for those who aren’t planning to upgrade in 2025. When the Switch 2 is released, players will be able to upgrade from the original Switch version with a patch that costs $10.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment

Switch 2 owners will have a new exclusive game to look forward to this year: *Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment*. It’s launching on November 6th and will only be available on the Switch 2. This newest installment in the *Hyrule Warriors* series expands on the story and reveals more about Princess Zelda’s past, building on elements introduced in *Tears of the Kingdom*.

While not a traditional Zelda adventure, *Hyrule Warriors* is a worthwhile addition to the series. Princess Zelda has been taking center stage lately, with her starring in *Echoes of Wisdom* and now playing a key role in *Age of Imprisonment*. If you’re hoping Nintendo will give you a good reason to buy a Switch 2, *Hyrule Warriors* is a strong contender.

Although 2026 promises even more new games for Nintendo consoles, 2025 still has several exciting titles on the way.
