Nintendo Switch 2 Getting One of the Most Influential RPGs in History

Nintendo Switch 2 owners are about to get a huge RPG experience! The console hasn’t had many major role-playing games specifically designed for it yet, though many Switch RPGs will work on the new system. Currently, standout native titles include Final Fantasy VII Remake, Cyberpunk 2077, and The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. But now, a very popular and influential RPG is coming to the Switch 2, giving players even more to enjoy.

This week, Nightdive Studios announced that the classic game System Shock 2 is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. First released in 1999, System Shock 2 was a groundbreaking first-person action RPG that significantly influenced the genre. It even inspired popular franchises like BioShock and Dishonored, as well as many indie games. Even though it’s almost 30 years old, System Shock 2 remains a beloved and important RPG in gaming history.

Last year, Nightdive Studios updated the classic game System Shock 2 with a remastered version. It’s been available on Nintendo Switch for a while, but a version specifically designed for the new Switch 2 hasn’t been released—until now. System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is coming to Switch 2 soon, and it will likely feature better graphics and faster performance, plus the ability to use Joy-Con controllers as a mouse.

Nightdive’s recent announcement about System Shock 2 was a bit confusing. Their initial press release mistakenly claimed the game was already available on Nintendo Switch 2, but they later corrected this, saying it would be released at a later date. It’s likely System Shock 2 will be available on the Nintendo eShop soon, as the initial error suggests a release is coming very quickly.

While waiting for more games, Switch 2 owners can now play the remake of the classic game System Shock, which recently became available in late 2025. Though it doesn’t receive quite as much praise as the second game, System Shock is still a great experience and well worth playing in 2026.
