Nintendo Switch Game That Was Supposed to Release in 2023 Has Now Been Canceled

A Nintendo Switch game first announced in 2023 has been canceled. It’s unusual for Nintendo to cancel games they’ve showcased, as they typically present titles that are near completion. This particular game, originally revealed over three years ago, has seen significant changes during development, ultimately leading to its cancellation for Nintendo Switch players.

The Switch game Decapolice has been cancelled. Developed by Level-5, the studio behind the popular Professor Layton series, Decapolice was originally revealed in a Nintendo Direct presentation in February 2023. Though planned for a release shortly after the announcement, Level-5 repeatedly delayed the “crime-suspense RPG,” with the latest target being 2026.

Level-5 announced today that it has cancelled the Switch version of Decapolice. The studio didn’t explain why, and offered no further details about the game. Players who were looking forward to playing on Switch will now need to find another way to experience it when it’s released.

Nintendo Fans Will Still Be Able to Play This Game

The good news is that Decapolice isn’t canceled for Nintendo systems. Level-5 is simply moving the game to the next generation Switch, as well as releasing it on PS5 and PC. While a specific release date hasn’t been announced yet, it’s expected within 2026, and we may hear more details soon.

It’s good news that Nintendo fans will still be able to play Decapolice when it’s released, but it’s still a little frustrating. The Nintendo Switch has around 150 million users, while the Switch 2 hasn’t even reached 20 million yet. So, if you were planning to play Decapolice on Switch, you’ll likely need to get a Switch 2 in the coming months.
