The Ocean’s Eleven prequel is adding another member to its heist.
Warner Bros. is making a prequel to the Ocean’s films, telling the story of Danny Ocean’s parents. Bradley Cooper and Margot Robbie will star as the parents, and Cooper is also directing. Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap, is helping to make the film.
Wagner Moura is in discussions to star in a new prequel to Ocean’s Eleven, according to The Hollywood Reporter. While details about his character are still under wraps, sources say he’ll be playing the antagonist. The film will focus on the story of Danny Ocean’s parents and a heist that takes place during the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix. Shooting is scheduled to begin in Paris at the end of July, with filming later moving to the south of France.
Wagner Moura was nominated for an Academy Award, and won both a Golden Globe and Best Actor at Cannes Film Festival, for his role in The Secret Agent. He recently lent his voice to Captain Brander Lawson in the animated series Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, which critics have overwhelmingly praised with a 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Moura is also well-known for his performances as Roberto Nascimento in the Elite Squad films and Pablo Escobar in the Netflix hit Narcos.
The Academy Award nominee is continuing a tradition of actors who’ve played either the villain or the target in previous Ocean’s films. This includes Andy Garcia in Ocean’s Eleven (2001), Vincent Cassel in Ocean’s Twelve, and Al Pacino in Ocean’s Thirteen. Garcia appeared in all three films directed by Steven Soderbergh, which starred George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Matt Damon.
