Sadie Sink’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day Character Is Hiding in New Trailer (Are the Rumors True?)

For months, Marvel fans have been wondering about the role Sadie Sink will play in the upcoming film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Rumors about her character are everywhere, and the mystery has only grown. The news that she’ll also be in Avengers: Secret Wars has fueled even more speculation, especially since Marvel Studios hasn’t officially revealed who she’s playing – and the movie is only five weeks away!

With the release of the new trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Marvel is demonstrating they plan to keep the film’s biggest secrets under wraps for a while longer. The trailer intentionally avoids showing a key character and even uses misleading editing to debunk existing fan theories. In a clever move, Marvel is now leading fans to believe a previously released shot—originally thought to feature Sadie Sink in a hooded coat—actually shows the Hulk, though some observant viewers have noticed inconsistencies in the enhanced 4K footage.

Sadie Sink Is Hiding in Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer

The initial trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day sparked fan theories that Sadie Sink was the mysterious character, and the latest trailer continues to play with that speculation. Marvel Studios is deliberately trying to mislead viewers about her identity. You can briefly see the character around the 56-second mark, but her face is hidden in shadow. However, the biggest attempt at misdirection happens around 1 minute and 30 seconds into the trailer.

When Peter arrives at a chaotic scene and declares, “You’re not going to get away with this,” Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) responds with, “But he might.” This is immediately followed by a shot of a shadowy figure working at a bank of computers with three large windows, then a shot of the Hulk amidst the debris of an apartment – also with three large windows. Marvel is cleverly using rapid editing to suggest that Banner and this mysterious figure are the same person, and the quick cuts are very effective at creating that impression. However, if you look closely at both figures, it becomes obvious they are not the same.

What’s particularly interesting is the earlier shot that hinted Sadie Sink’s character was the hooded figure in the movie. While the image appears to have been edited to hide the face better, some careful editing reveals details, including the eyes. It’s not certain it’s definitely Sadie Sink, but she strongly resembles the figure in the image more than Mark Ruffalo does.

The ongoing buzz suggests Anya Taylor-Joy (Sink) might be playing Jean Grey in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day storyline. This rumor feels plausible, considering the new character’s ability to possess and jump between bodies – a power perfectly suited for a strong psychic like Jean Grey. Adding to this, reports indicate Sink will also appear in Avengers: Secret Wars, leading many to believe we’re finally seeing the first mutant (X-Man) enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Many fans believe Stranger Things star Sadie Sink is playing Jean Grey in the upcoming Marvel movie, largely due to the extreme secrecy surrounding her role. Usually, Marvel Studios reveals which characters actors are portraying well before a film’s release – even if they don’t reveal everything about the character. For example, they announced Guy Pearce was Aldrich Killian in Iron Man 3 without mentioning he would be the villain. However, with Sink, Marvel hasn’t confirmed anything at all, not even a false name to throw fans off track. This level of secrecy, and even editing trailers to mislead audiences, seems counterproductive.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens in theaters on July 31.
