Classic PS1 RPG Gets New Feature After 28 Years

A popular role-playing game originally released for PlayStation in 1998 just got a surprise update. We’ve seen a lot of older PlayStation games remade or remastered recently, and while many simply improve the graphics and controls, some are adding entirely new content. This trend continues with a recent remaster that came out last year.

Square Enix recently surprised fans with a new update for Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles. The game, a remastered version of the classic PlayStation 1 strategy RPG, was already popular when it launched in September 2025. Now, a significant patch, version 1.5.0, makes the remastered version even better.

The biggest addition in this update to Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles is New Game+. This feature wasn’t available in the original Final Fantasy Tactics, making it a completely new way to experience the game. Once you finish the game once, New Game+ lets you start another playthrough with your existing unit levels and items.

The biggest addition in this update is New Game+, but Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles also received several other improvements. Players can now easily check a unit’s zodiac sign and compatibility directly from the menu, which is a helpful feature. Square Enix has also added options to speed up gameplay and included support for more languages. Overall, this seems to be the most substantial update the game has gotten since it was remastered.

If you haven’t played Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles yet, now is the perfect time. The game was already a fantastic remaster when it came out last year, and Square Enix has continued to make it even better based on what players have said. It’s not just a great remaster; it’s likely the best way to play the game now.

You can now play Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Plus, Square Enix is currently offering a special sale on the game for a limited time on select platforms.
