Off Campus Showrunner Reveals Who Is Leading Season 2

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Off Campus season one.

I was completely invested in Hannah and Garrett’s love story at Briar U, and I’m already wondering who’s going to find their own happily ever after next! It was so great seeing them together, and now I’m excited to see what romances blossom next at the school.

Louisa Levy, the showrunner for Prime Video’s Off Campus, revealed that in the upcoming second season, Hannah’s friend Allie Hayes (Mika Abdalla) and hockey player Dean Di Laurentis (Stephen Kalyn) will be dealing with the complications of their secret casual relationship.

In a recent interview with Variety, Levy shared that she decided to introduce the romance between Allie and Dean in the first season—which was inspired by the novel The Deal—rather than saving it for a later installment. She confirmed the leads for the upcoming season with a smile and a nod.

She explained in a post-premiere interview that she wanted to build anticipation for the characters. Allie felt like a natural fit because of her close friendship with Hannah and Dean’s existing presence. Since their romance was a secret in the book, she decided to keep it a surprise for both viewers and readers when the show launched.

Because of when and how we’re releasing things, we had to adjust a few details, but I can assure you all the features fans love are still planned and coming. We have a lot more exciting developments in store for those two aspects.

Levy explained to fans that some changes were needed for the show. This included moving Allie and Dean’s romance to season two, even though their story appears later in Elle Kennedy’s books, and introducing Hunter Davenport (played by Charlie Evans) as a villain.

The show introduced Hunter, who shares a background with Dean, to make his appearance feel natural. According to the creator, they needed to create conflict in Dean and Allie’s relationship to extend their storyline, and bringing in a character from that same world seemed like the best way to do it. Allie and Hunter have a brief romantic encounter before the tension between Hunter and Dean is revealed.

Kennedy shared that Grace, a character whose romance with Garrett’s best friend is a key part of the second book, The Mistake, is who she enjoys writing the most.

She admitted that Grace tends to go off on tangents when she’s anxious and can be quite unpredictable. She’s really looking forward to seeing Grace portrayed on screen, believing audiences will connect with her relatable awkwardness. She even confessed there were times while writing the book she found Grace’s behavior embarrassing, wishing the character would just stop talking, and she’s eager to see how that translates to the screen.

Now that Off Campus has launched the second season, here are some other great books that have been adapted for the screen.

As for where production is for season two of Off Campus

Levy confirmed that all eight scripts are finished and they have a great plan for the new season. He hinted that fans of the original books will be especially pleased with what’s in store, but didn’t share any details just yet.

Kennedy also revealed a new relationship developing in season two of Briar U: John Logan, played by Antonio Cipriano, and Grace Ivers, played by India Fowler.

I watched Antonio and India—who will play Grace—do a chemistry test, and they had amazing on-screen connection. That’s what I’m looking forward to the most, according to a recent interview with TopMob News.

Kennedy shared that Grace, a character whose romance with Garrett’s best friend is explored in the second book, The Mistake, is who she enjoys writing the most.

She admitted that Grace tends to talk a lot when she’s anxious and often jumps from topic to topic. She’s really looking forward to seeing Grace come to life on screen, believing audiences will connect with her relatable awkwardness. She even shared that while writing the book, there were times Grace’s behavior embarrassed her, and she’d think, ‘Grace, please stop!’ She’s eager to see how that awkwardness translates to the screen.

I’m absolutely thrilled about the upcoming movie adaptation of Ali Hazelwood’s incredibly popular novel! As a huge fan of the book – it seriously took #BookTok by storm – I couldn’t be more excited to see this fake dating romance come to life on the big screen. What makes it even more fascinating is the connection to the original fanfiction, which was inspired by Star Wars‘ Rey and Kylo Ren! And get this – Tom Bateman, who’s married to Daisy Ridley (the actress who played Rey!), is starring alongside Lili Reinhart. Honestly, if that doesn’t pique your interest, I don’t know what will!

The story itself sounds gripping: a woman goes back to the world of con artistry she grew up in to try and build a life for herself. Plus, Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine is producing, so you know it’s going to be good. I’m already ready to watch!
