Once Upon a Time in Hollywood sequel first look sees Brad Pitt return to iconic character

Most of the trailers during Sunday’s Super Bowl were predictable, but one stood out: a surprise first glimpse at the upcoming film, The Adventures of Cliff Booth.

This new movie stars Brad Pitt and is a continuation of the story from Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 Oscar-winning film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which was set in 1969 Hollywood. However, Tarantino won’t be directing this time; he’s written the screenplay, and David Fincher is directing.

David Fincher and Brad Pitt have a long and successful working relationship, having made three critically acclaimed films together: Seven (1995), Fight Club (1999), and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008).

Brad Pitt will star alongside Elizabeth Debicki, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Carla Gugino, Holt McCallany, Timothy Olyphant, and other well-known actors in his upcoming project.

The trailer shows Cliff explaining the events from the end of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood to Debicki’s character. It includes strong language, nudity, and violence, but all offensive words are blurred out with blue markings.

The preview doesn’t share when the movie will be released, only that it’s coming soon. It’s being made for Netflix, so it will probably have a limited run in theaters.

In August 2025, Quentin Tarantino shared why he decided against directing the film on his podcast, The Church of Tarantino. He said he enjoyed the script, but felt it was too similar to projects he’d already done. He wanted his next movie to be a completely new experience, something where he wasn’t sure what he was doing and could explore new creative ground.

He expressed his excitement about David Fincher directing, stating that he believes both of them are among the best directors. He felt Fincher’s interest in adapting his work demonstrated a significant respect for it, which he considered important.
