One of the 1980s’ Scariest Horrors Returns to Streaming (& It’s Terrifying Despite Being PG)

Films like Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining and Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead, along with the beginning of well-known and frightening slasher series such as Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street, showed a scary new direction for horror in cinemas. One particularly famous horror movie from the ‘80s, even though it was rated PG, is just as frightening as others, and horror fans will be excited to hear it’s now back on streaming.

If you’re an HBO Max subscriber hoping for a frightening movie this Halloween, you can now watch Poltergeist (1982). This classic film was directed by Tobe Hooper and produced by Steven Spielberg. Despite having a PG rating, it’s definitely not suitable for children. Poltergeist follows the Freeling family as their quiet life is disrupted when spirits start communicating with them through their television, and their young daughter, Carol Ann, disappears. The movie became available on HBO Max on October 1st, and stars JoBeth Williams, Craig T. Nelson, and Beatrice Straight.
