One of the great benefits of streaming services is the ability to watch complete movie series in one convenient location. Platforms are constantly adding and updating their content, making it easier than ever to binge-watch entire franchises. While it can be frustrating when a series leaves a platform, a popular dystopian franchise is now available all in one place again, which is fantastic news for fans.
Starting January 14th, all five Hunger Games movies will be available to stream on Peacock. They were previously on HBO Max but were removed at the end of November, so they haven’t been available for streaming until now. This isn’t the first time the films have been on Peacock. The series, based on Suzanne Collins’ novels, takes place in a futuristic, ruined version of the United States called Panem. In this dark world, children are selected from each of Panem’s 12 districts to compete in a televised fight to the death known as the Hunger Games.
The first four Hunger Games movies center on Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), who bravely volunteers as tribute in place of her sister and unintentionally starts a rebellion. The fifth film, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, is a prequel taking place 64 years earlier, telling the story of a young Coriolanus Snow, who will eventually become the series’ villain. All the films are now available on Peacock, just in time for the release of another prequel movie later this year.
Now Is the Best Time to Watch The Hunger Games
As a huge fan of The Hunger Games, I’m thrilled to see all the movies are now streaming together on Peacock! And it’s perfect timing, because Suzanne Collins released another prequel novel, Sunrise on the Reaping, last year, and they’re already making a movie! This one goes back to Haymitch Abernathy’s time in the arena – specifically, the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell. It’s fascinating because it shows how he became the mentor we know from the original movies. Honestly, rewatching the first films will definitely get me even more hyped for Sunrise on the Reaping, and it’ll really help explain why his story is so important – something fans have been asking for forever!
Both Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their roles as Katniss and Peeta in Sunrise on the Reaping. While it’s unknown exactly how they’ll appear, the film could use a section from the book where Haymitch recounts the story to them. This also offers fans a chance to see what Katniss and Peeta’s lives are like after the original Hunger Games trilogy – something fans have long been curious about. With no current plans for further Hunger Games sequels, this might be the closest fans get to seeing more of their story.
The complete current The Hunger Games franchise heads to Peacock on January 14th.
