It can be tough to pick a movie everyone will enjoy for family night, and even harder to find two! The best family films are fun for kids but also engaging enough for adults. While series like *How to Train Your Dragon* and *Despicable Me* are popular choices, if you’re looking for something new, a fantastic animated movie from 2012 and its excellent sequel are now available to stream, having returned in October.
Just in time for Halloween, Hulu began streaming the animated films *Hotel Transylvania* and *Hotel Transylvania 2* on October 1st. These movies, directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, are about Hotel Transylvania, a hidden resort where monsters can escape the human world. Adam Sandler stars as Count Dracula, the hotel’s owner, while Selena Gomez voices his daughter, Mavis. Andy Samberg plays Jonathan, a human who discovers the hotel and falls in love with Mavis.
Hotel Transylvania Is a Perfect Spooky Season Watch for the Entire Family
Looking for a fun family movie this October? Hotel Transylvania is a great choice! It cleverly takes classic monsters and turns them into lovable, funny characters. Instead of a scary villain, Count Dracula is a dedicated father who just wants to protect his daughter, and Frankenstein’s monster is surprisingly kind and sweet. By making these characters more approachable, Hotel Transylvania is a perfect way to introduce kids to Halloween-themed entertainment – it’s a heartwarming and funny story the whole family can enjoy.
The first *Hotel Transylvania* was a strong start, but the sequel actually surpassed it. Picking up several years later, with Mavis and Johnny now married with a child, the film delivers all the humor and colorful animation of the original, while also giving us deeper character development and expanding the *Hotel Transylvania* universe with new places and characters. With a 64% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s a thoroughly enjoyable movie that helped the franchise evolve beyond the first installment and paved the way for future sequels.
Other Family-Friendly Movies Now on Hulu
As a big movie fan, I was happy to see Hulu really beefing up its family-friendly options! They just added a bunch of classics, including *Ice Age: Collision Course* and the first three *Madagascar* movies, along with *Hotel Transylvania* and its sequel – all available starting October 1st. If you’re looking for something a little spookier, they’ve also got *Edward Scissorhands*, but that one’s rated PG-13, so it’s probably best for older kids.
